David Ready Jr., Winemaker
Wine has always played a big part of David’s life, even back to his roots in Minneapolis, Minnesota. That’s because his father, David Ready Sr., has been part of the wine industry since the early 1970s. For decades, David Sr. shared the passion and enjoyment that wines and winemaking can bring with his son.
In 1988, David packed up his van and moved west to help with Murphy-Goode Estate Winery’s first crush. He’s been a part of their team ever since, learning winemaking at every level and supplementing his working knowledge with viticulture classes at UC Davis.
David became assistant winemaker at Murphy-Goode in 1997, and in 1998 he took the lead in developing the winery’s new zinfandel program—setting the style for their very popular Liar’s Dice zinfandel and the subsequent line of Murphy-Goode zinfandels to come. In 2000 he created Snake Eyes zinfandel, and another legendary wine was born.
In 2001 David became winemaker at Murphy-Goode, and in the years since he’s helped to make Murphy-Goode a high-ranking, award-winning winery that excels in all of its varietals. His collection of cabernets is quickly becoming one of the most talked about—and anticipated—in Sonoma County.
David’s love for being a winemaker and living in Sonoma County shines in every bottle, and he is at the helm in creating Lady Luck Wines and his premium Jack William varietals.
